British military intervention in Afghanistan has a chequered history, making it easy to conclude that British forces will fail again
Puzzled by Washington

The United Stated invaded Afghanistan in 2002, toppled the Taliban regime to defeat al-Qaeda and establish a democratic government in Afghanistan. The United Sates and the European Union spent millions of dollars and sent monitors to run elections in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, after every election in Afghanistan, be it transparent or rigged, the United Sates interfered. About six years ago when Mohammad Ashraf Ghani won the elections, Abdullah Abdullah didn’t accept the result and threatened to create a parallel government. Instead of convincing Abdullah to accept the result, the United States sent Secretary of State John Kerry and created a two headed government, half run by Ghani and the other half run by Abdullah. The United Stated called this a unity government.
In the recent elections, Mohammad Ashraf Ghani was declared as the winner of the election. Once again double Abdullah doesn’t accept the results and has taken the oath as the president of Afghanistan and has declared a parallel government. Instead of warning Abdullah of the dangerous consequences of creating instability and anarchy in Afghanistan, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is trying to create an inclusive government.
Two questions:
1. If the United Sated and the European countries are not willing to support the electoral process and its results in Afghanistan, then why spend millions of dollars on elections? Ghani, Abdullah, warlords, the drug mafia, other corrupt politicians can come together and divide power and ministries amongst themselves and spare the people from the danger of participating in elections. Many people’s fingers were cut off, because they participated in the elections.
2. What is inclusive government? Is inclusiveness defined based on political parties, religion, ethnicity, color of the skin, language, etc. What are the criteria? Do we have an inclusive government in the United States? The 2016 elections in the United States were allegedly rigged by President Donald Trump and his supporters. He has been impeached for that and the case is still going on. Covid-19 is blessing in disguise for Donald Trump. Once the results were announced, Hillary Clinton accepted the results. Did President Trump create an inclusive government? How many blacks, Mexicans, Chinese, Vietnamese, and other Asians, Latin Americans, South Americans, Somalis, Nigerians, South Africans, Arabs, Muslims, Indians, etc. do we have in President Trump cabinet? If the United Sates is prescribing an inclusive government for Afghanistan, then it would help to create one in the United States first, so that the Afghans can copy.
This is not to say that I support Ashraf Ghani and his government, but I am puzzled by the inconsistency, of the American politics, recognizing that there is no consistency in politics, but still.
